Helping Families Cope With Autism
The Autism Center directly supports children and adults with autism, and their families, through access to a dedicated, community-based specialist, a lending library of printed and electronic multi-media, case management services, and the web-based Nashua Autism Network (NAN).
NAN is an on-line, interactive, 24/7 Nashua-based resource for improved communications, and information sharing, amongst those with autism and their families. NAN provides up to date information on local and national autism news, services, and supports, with oversight from the Autism Center. The center is a valuable, local resource. The Center Coordinator provides information and resources to schools, medical professionals, the work place, and others to foster empathy and understanding for individuals with ASD. The Coordinator is also available to give presentations to various agencies and groups on topics related to autism. The center also provides training courses on autism, distributes a monthly newsletter, and oversees a Nashua regional Support Group. Additional specialized programs for those diagnosed with autism are also available from Gateways including our Autism 9-1-1 Registration and Parent-2-Child Training. Autism 9-1-1 is a program that allows you to register your child with your local police department and the New Hampshire 9-1-1 Center. Its purpose is to identify your residence as one where a child with autism lives, or a child may wander. Police responding to a call from your home will immediately know that they may be dealing with a person who has autism and will have a better idea as to how to manage the situation. Parent-2-Child is a practical solution that offers 10 hours of weekly classroom instruction for the child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and parents using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The training is offered in 9 week sessions and then repeated. Children and parents continue to go through the 9 week sessions until their child transitions, at age 3. The training provides 25 hours of support each week. To learn more, please contact the Autism Center Coordinator, at (603) 459-1798 or .
